The imaging team is key to this pathway, supporting our surgical colleagues with information sufficient to reassure or diagnose patients. This role extends to incorporate the acquisition of tissue for histopathological diagnosis in the majority of cancer cases, completing disease staging and guiding decision making for the wider MDT to support patients through their treatment and ongoing post-therapy surveillance.
Consultant breast radiologists are expected to contribute fully to the work of the breast unit, including participation in MDT meetings, audit, research and teaching.
