This is an exciting opportunity in one of the largest cities in Wales. The Trust are looking for a Clinical Fellow (ST3+) in General Paediatrics who is keen to work in a dedicated team of consultants and senior staff. The Trust is home to three main acute hospitals. This opportunity is perfect for experienced doctors wanting to focus purely on Paediatrics.  

Main Duties: 

As a ST3+ Clinical Fellow in General Paediatrics, you will be expected to participate in the following: 

  • Required to work a 10-doctor rota incorporating nights, long days and weekends. 
  • You will be working with 11 middle grade Paediatricians and supporting 12 SHOs. 
  • The role will be covering Paediatric Acute and Emergency care, HDU and a range of Paediatric subspecialty care. There is no Neonatal element to this role. 
  • Work in the Paediatric in-patient and out-patient department.
  • Provide advice to clinicians from other department, either on telephone calls or ward referrals. 
  • Supervision and care of Paediatric inpatients. 
  • Support SHOs in their clinical work. 

The Hospital:

The position is based at a 750-bed teaching hospital in one of the biggest cities in Wales. The hospital serves a large population of 390,000 people and has a diverse range of cases and different presentations of disease. The unit covers Epilepsy, CF, Asthma, Nutrition, Diabetes, and Safeguarding specialties. 

This is a level 3 Paediatrics Unit based in south Wales. Doctors are expected to participate in department audit and governance programmes. They also have mandatory appraisals to identify training and development needs. 

The Location:

The hospital is based on the picturesque coastline of South Wales perfect for doctors who enjoy spending time in the countryside and also want to be near a major city. 

The city is well-connected by road and rail, which makes it easy to travel around the city and to visit major cities. The closest international airport is only an hour car ride away making it accessible to visit friends and family overseas. 

The area has a vibrant cultural atmosphere with many cultural events all year round which give the city a strong sense of community. 

The city is home to a well-regarded university which attracts many students and professionals.

Locals can enjoy scenic coastal walks and outdoor recreational activities along the beautiful beaches. There are numerous restaurants and food markets to visit which include lots of international cuisine. 

The cost of living in the city is relatively affordable as housing and transportation is extremely lower than other major cities in the UK, making it great it a great location for families. 

Requirements:

The team are open to applicants from the UK or from Ireland and will support you in settling into the new role.

  • Full MRCPCH. 
  • Full registration with the GMC.
  • Primary Medical Qualification - MBBS or equivalent. 
  • APLS or EPLS.
  • Knowledge of Child Safeguarding level 3 or equivalent. 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of Paediatrics. 
  • Experience at registrar level or equivalent in Paediatrics.
