This is truly an amazing opportunity to join the Acute Medicine team as a Consultant at this renowned hospital in the NHS. They are working on expanding their Consultant workforce to bring another experienced doctor into their ranks. The department are interested in doctors who have experience making senior level decisions and good management skills. This specific Trust is seeking UK experienced doctors to apply who are looking to secure a place on the Specialty Register. You will have a 10 PA job plan (40 hours), divided into 7 PAs dedicated towards critical care, 1.5 PAs towards SPA, and the last 1.5 PA towards Admin.
Main Duties:
- You will lead the acute medical team in making decisions on the medical admissions to the AMU (Acute Medical Unit) focusing on timely assessment, management and discharge.
- You’ll be required to supervise and teach junior doctors within department in both the AMU and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
- You will be asked to participate in the medical on-call rota – managing emergency situations as needed. It’s currently a 1:9.
- You’ll be expected to engage in clinical audits and quality improvement projects as well as developing your clinical skills through regular CPD and SPA time
- You will have to coordinate Multidisciplinary teams to deliver high quality care.

The hospital is a large-sized University teaching hospital, encompassing many specialties. The site provides excellent teaching opportunities, with ties to the local University. It is a great option for doctors with a passion for teaching and professional development. The department have a good track record with helping doctors through CESR, one of their current consultants are currently being supported through the process now. The workforce within the hospital is very multicultural, much of the clinical staff started their careers overseas before moving to the UK.

The West Midlands is one of the most popular places to live in the UK, it’s multicultural and comes with a low cost of living.
The hospital is based in one of the UK’s major cities so has everything that’ll you will need. The city is known for being culturally diverse. Their multicultural setting makes it easy to find your feet and settle down. You should be able to find people with similar backgrounds relatively easily too. If you’re coming with children, you’ll be glad to know the city includes multiple schools rated both ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’.
Being based in the West Midlands you are a short 1 hour train journey from central London and if you wanted to visit family who are living overseas then the city has its own International Airport. There is also excellent transportation to the rest of the country and other cities (Bristol, Manchester, Leeds).
Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need the following:
- Full MRCP (UK)
- Experience working as a Consultant in the NHS or Ireland
The below is preferable but not essential:
- Specialist registration
- SCE Acute Medicine
