This is a fantastic opportunity for a Substantive Consultant to take the next step up in their career to become a Clinical Director of Acute Medicine. 

Main Duties: 

  • Be responsible for the assessment, investigation and management of acutely unwell adult medical patients in AMU, SDEC, and ED.
  • Provide clinical leadership and senior decision making within the Acute Medicine team.
  • Lead ward rounds.
  • Work alongside the on-call team.
  • Be responsible for the supervision and education of junior doctors and medical staffing.
  • Liaise with Consultant colleagues in other specialties.
  • Complete and lead medical research and clinical audit as required.
  • 10 PAs (8 for consultant duties, 2 for Clinical Director duties)

The Hospital:

This Health Board is home to two fantastic Acute hospitals, totaling up to 1,300 beds between them. With 15,000 medical emergency patients admitted per year, this will be a fantastic place to gain senior leadership experience in busy settings. The Acute department consists of the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), the Emergency Department (ED), which all work in close association with each other. With large sums of investments into the Acute department in recent years, the Health Board are looking for a great Clinical Director to strengthen this and hold the department together. One of the UK’s best Universities is also based in the city, and is partnered with the Health Board, so you will be involved in teaching and training of Medical Students.

Because of its diversity, you will find shops and restaurants that offer all types of food and cuisines.  You will be based in one of the cities of Wales, which offers lots of great things to do which a fantastic range of restaurants, bars, shops, and schools, whilst also being nearby to the National Park of the Brecon Beacons, offering the best of both worlds! Very close by you also have Cardiff, the capital of South Wales, which has lots of amazing restaurants, bars, a beautiful pier, a fascinating castle and no shortage of parks and hills, meaning you will have plenty of sights to visit on your days off. Additionally, the cost of living in South Wales is relatively affordable compared to some other major cities in the UK, making it a practical choice for IMGs who are starting their careers or raising families. 

Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need the following:

  • On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Acute Medicine and general internal medicine or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam
  • Full MRCP or equivalent 
  • GMC Registration with license to practice.
  • Consulting experience in General or Acute medicine.
  • Experience of supervising Junior staff
  • Ability to make independent decisions
