This position is intended for physicians who wish to advance in their careers and take on more responsibility in overseeing a busy department in addition to patient care (at the Registrar level). The following responsibilities, which are not set in stone and could be modified depending on the needs of the service, will be carried out by the position holder under the supervision of senior colleagues.

It is a 400 bedded hospital with a busy DGH Emergency Department that sees a wide variety of presentations (in both adult and paediatric). They deal with medical, surgical, orthopaedic, paediatric and trauma patients. These patients can present and be assessed in resus, majors, minors or paediatric ED.

As a Trust, they place high importance on staff wellbeing, you will be offered a wide variety of support to help you maintain your wellbeing and to help colleagues maintain theirs. The Trusts Health and Wellbeing team has won a National Award during 2020 for the work they have done locally. The ED sees approx. 100,000 new attendances per year (approx. 1/4 paediatric). They have a modern, computerised department with PACS access for imaging. There is a separate Paediatric Emergency Department located adjacent to the main department

Main Duties: 

  • Take a history and examine a patient 
  • Identify and synthesize problems 
  • Prescribe safely 
  • Keep an accurate and relevant medical record (electronic notes)
  • Manage time and clinical priorities effectively 
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues 
  • Use evidence, guidelines and audit to benefit patient care

Requirements:

  • Fully registered with the GMC with licence to practise
  • MRCEM
  • Ability to help lead and supervise a multi-professional team and take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
