There is a fantastic opportunity to join a busy Emergency Department as a Clinical Fellow (ST3/4) at a reputable Trust in London, where you will assist in the running of the shop floor and supporting your colleagues in managing the department. You will also be expected to supervise the Junior doctors in the department. This is a unique opportunity for doctors looking for exposure to a multitude of cases of all types.

Main Duties:

The post holder will be clinically and educationally responsible to the Consultants in the Emergency Department  

The poster holder will support the Emergency Department in:

  • Direct clinical supervision and training of the Emergency department Junior medical staff and Emergency Nurse practitioners working in the ED as well as the organisation and delegation of clinical work.
  • The appropriate discharge of patients to a specialist unit within the hospital and other hospitals in the area, including GPs
  • The readiness of the department to implement at any time the Major Incident Plan
  • The post holder is expected to contribute to the periodic reviews and verifications of these plans
  • Active participation vat various committees and working groups
  • Participation in development of emergency treatment protocols
  • Ensuring the effective organization of the reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and emergency treatment of all patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
  • Ensuring own practice is up to date. This will include taking responsibility for own clinical professional development and participation in the Trust wide appraisal system.

The Department and Hospital:

The Trust has 2 hospitals that both have Emergency Departments in London, both being the busiest emergency departments in the city. In 2019/20 there were 189,518 emergency and urgent attendances (Type 1 & 2) and nearly 65,000 ambulance arrivals at both sites. The Trust has a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit at both sites as well as a Neurosciences Centre, and a dedicated breast care service at one of the sites. There will be opportunities to formally and informally develop non-clinical skills like management, quality improvement, and leadership and supervision. We have an incredible record of training and teaching, especially in quality improvement and collaborating with all staff to create ways to enhance working conditions.

Requirements:

  • Full MRCEM or NHS experience
  • 2 or more years A&E experience
  • OET or IELTS if you are applying from overseas
  • GMC Registered or registration in process
