We are pleased to be working with a fantastic NHS Trust in South East England, looking for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with an interest in Head & Neck and Urological cancers. The successful applicant will work closely with fellow consultants and multidisciplinary teams to provide high-quality, patient-centered care. 

The Role

Key duties include:

  • Providing leadership in the management and treatment of patients with Head & Neck and Urological cancers.
  • Working alongside colleagues at Southend, Basildon, and Broomfield Hospitals, ensuring seamless cancer care across these sites.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior medical staff, as well as contributing to their professional development and training.
  • Promoting evidence-based practice and contributing to departmental audits and research initiatives.
  • Participating in the oncology department’s clinical audits and multidisciplinary case reviews.
  • Supporting the continued development of the oncology service within the wider healthcare system.

You will be part of a cohesive oncology team that works across the three hospitals, facilitating cross-cover and sub-specialisation. The role offers the opportunity for a varied and rewarding workload, including time for research and academic development. The post is full-time with a commitment to on-call duties as part of the rota.

The Hospital

This hospital is home to the main cancer centre for the region and serves as the lead employer for cancer services across South Essex. It is part of one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country, employing around 15,000 staff and providing services to a population of 1.2 million people.

The oncology department is highly regarded and features state-of-the-art facilities to deliver comprehensive cancer care. The team works across multiple hospitals, including, ensuring high standards and seamless patient care across all sites. The department has a strong commitment to professional development, evidence-based practice and continuous service improvement.

This role is based in a vibrant seaside town located in South East England. The town offers an ideal balance between urban convenience and coastal charm, making it a wonderful place to live and work. The Requirements

Essential criteria: 

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Oncology, or within 6 months of attaining it at the time of interview
  • Completion of specialist oncology training or equivalent experience
  • Extensive knowledge of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and the ability to offer expert clinical advice on oncology-related issues
  • A commitment to multidisciplinary team working and a passion for teaching and developing junior staff

Desirable criteria:

  • MD or PhD
  • Experience in the management of Head & Neck and Urological cancers
  • Evidence of management training
  • Experience in participating in Adjuvant Oncology Services (AOS)
