A Trust in the South East are looking for a Consultant Histopathologist to join their highly specialised team in a Specialist Reconstructive Surgery Centre and contribute to the workload in Head & Neck, Oral & Maxillofacial, ENT, Salivary Gland and Thyroid reporting.

The Department

The hospital has digital photography, image analysis and will be procuring a full digital histopathology solution soon. There are facilities for dictation of microscopic descriptions and remote working is permissible allowing for great flexibility in the post holder’s rota.

The Histopathology laboratory is fully equipped and includes a purpose designed specimen dissection area with AFOS extraction and ventilated specimen storage facilities. The laboratory service provides on-site tissue processing and slide-staining and preparation, conventional histochemistry and immunohistochemistry. Well established links exist to regional laboratories for specialist support in molecular genetics, lymphoid, thyroid, bone and soft tissue tumour pathology.

Main Duties

  • This is a 10PA job with no out of hours requirements
  • The post holder will  take part in weekly MDTs.  
  • Expectation to take part in Appraisal, Mandatory Training and MDT attendance are expected.
  • The SPA core time is provided and undertaken within the Trust but there is availability to work from home for up to 1 day a week (needs approval from Clinical Lead)

  • You will be required to participate in clinical governance and quality improvement projects, with opportunities to collab with other departments across the Trust.
  • The Trust is extremely supportive of the GMC Revalidation process and are happy to assist in the process of annual assessment, appraisal, and Revalidation

Requirements

  • Full GMC Registration
  • Recognised post graduate qualification (FRCPath)
  • Evidence of participation in CPD
  • Non-UK trained applicants need to show evidence working towards CCT equivalent (CESR/Portfolio Pathway)
