Are you a dedicated and experienced physician looking for an exciting opportunity in Acute Medicine? We are working with a well-established NHS Trust to recruit a Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine. Role and Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing unselected acute medical emergencies and ensuring high clinical standards
- Overseeing the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Assessment Unit (SDMA), and collaborating with the Emergency Department
- Participating in teaching and training of junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals
- Contributing to clinical governance, quality improvement, and medical audits within the department
- Engaging in continuing medical education (CME) and professional development
- Working closely with acute GP colleagues to deliver an integrated primary and secondary care service
- Providing senior medical supervision and ensuring smooth patient flow across the emergency floor
- Supporting the implementation of new initiatives to improve unscheduled care services
- Participating in the on-call rota, weekend ward rounds, and providing senior medical input in the Emergency Department
You will also be expected to contribute to service development and innovation within the department.
The Hospital
The Trust provides acute medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 400,000, with an influx of visitors during holiday seasons. The hospital has a well-established Acute Medical Unit that works closely with the Emergency Department to ensure seamless patient care.
Key hospital features include:
A 534-bedded facility with a dedicated Acute Medical Unit (AMU).
A 14-bedded OPAL unit to support elderly and frail patients.
A modern Same Day Medical Assessment (SDMA) unit to facilitate early assessment and treatment.
Collaboration with a robust acute care-at-home program, reducing admissions and supporting early discharge.
A strong academic presence with a well-regarded postgraduate and undergraduate teaching program.

The Requirements
Essential criteria:
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview)
- Experience working in an Acute Medical Admissions Unit
- Strong clinical and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- A commitment to clinical governance, quality improvement, and teaching
- The ability to adapt to a changing healthcare environment and work flexibly, including shift patterns
Desirable criteria:
- Experience supporting Emergency Medicine
- Involvement in clinical research and service development initiatives
- Prior experience in supervising and mentoring junior doctors
- A willingness to engage in leadership roles within the department
