Consultant in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
- £105,504 to £139,882
- UK, South Coast
- Permanent
Are you a dedicated Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist looking for a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in both physical and mental health services for young people? We are working with an NHS Trust on the south coast of England seeking a Consultant to join their respected Paediatric Liaison team, delivering integrated care within a nationally recognised Children’s Hospital.
Role and Responsibilities
In this full-time, permanent Consultant post, you will play a key role in the Paediatric Liaison (Hospital CAMHS) service within a major teaching hospital. The role encompasses a blend of psychiatric assessment, treatment, and consultation for children and adolescents referred by secondary and tertiary paediatric services.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing clinical leadership for the CAMHS Paediatric Liaison (CAMHS-PL) services
- Working closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver care to young people with a range of mental health needs, often alongside complex physical health problems
- Leading the psychiatric care of patients with conditions such as anorexia nervosa and contributing to their inpatient management alongside paediatricians
- Establishing and nurturing links with specialist paediatric departments such as neurology, sleep medicine, and nephrology
- Offering consultation, advice and supervision to paediatric and mental health professionals, trainees, and external agencies such as schools and social services
- Taking part in teaching, including a structured Family Psychiatry Week for undergraduate medical students and training for junior doctors.
- Participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota on a 1 in 11–12 basis, covering CAMHS across the region
The post also includes non-clinical time (Supporting Professional Activities), including structured teaching, professional development, and research opportunities. The weekly timetable includes regular ward rounds, outpatient clinics, administrative time, team meetings, and SPA sessions.
The Hospital
You will be based within a leading regional Children’s Hospital that offers a comprehensive range of secondary and tertiary paediatric services. The hospital is part of a large University NHS Trust known for its cutting-edge research, training, and multidisciplinary care.
The Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) are integrated within the hospital and include both outpatient liaison and Bursledon House – a unique paediatric mental health inpatient service. The team is well-established and works closely with other services, including community CAMHS and regional eating disorder pathways. There is an active culture of collaboration between physical and mental healthcare services, supported by a robust academic and teaching infrastructure.
The hospital has an excellent reputation for staff development and offers extensive support for Continuing Professional Development, research engagement, and medical education.
