Are you an experienced Consultant Paediatrician looking to make a meaningful difference in community child health services? We are working with an established healthcare provider in a dynamic and supportive department, offering a fantastic opportunity for a Consultant in Community Paediatrics to join a forward-thinking multidisciplinary team. 

Role and Responsibilities

As a Consultant in Community Paediatrics, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, community-based paediatric services. You will manage a diverse caseload of children and young people with developmental, behavioural, and neurological needs, including those with complex health conditions and safeguarding concerns.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical leadership in community paediatric clinics
  • Managing cases involving neurodevelopmental assessments (including ASD and ADHD assessments)
  • Participating in Looked After Children (LAC) assessments and Child Protection Medicals
  • Working collaboratively with education, social care, and voluntary agencies
  • Offering supervision and support to junior medical staff and trainees
  • Participating in audit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives
  • Taking part in the on-call rota (non-acute), usually 1:6, covering child protection cases

This is a 10 PA job plan, typically including 8 DCC and 2 SPA sessions, with flexibility to accommodate interests and service needs.

The Hospital

We are working with a well-established healthcare provider delivering a wide range of community-based services. The Trust supports a comprehensive paediatric department with robust infrastructure and multidisciplinary collaboration. The department includes community paediatrics, school nursing, and specialist services for children with disabilities.

The team is composed of Consultants, Associate Specialists, Specialty Doctors, and trainees, supported by administrative and specialist staff. Facilities include well-equipped outpatient clinics, access to diagnostic services, and shared digital health records ensuring continuity of care and integrated service delivery.

The Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Entry on the Specialist Register in Paediatrics (Community Child Health) via CCT, CESR, or equivalent
  • Extensive experience in community paediatrics, including safeguarding, neurodevelopmental assessments, and LAC work
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary working skills
  • Commitment to clinical governance, teaching, and service improvement

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in leadership or management roles
  • Evidence of academic contributions or interest in research
  • Previous experience in service development or redesign
