We are working with an established Trust in East of England to recruit a Consultant in Glaucoma to join their expert ophthalmology service.
Role and Responsibilities
- Diagnosing and managing a range of eye conditions, with an emphasis on providing high-quality patient care
- Performing surgical procedures in line with your subspecialty expertise
- Contributing to the on-call rota, ensuring continuity of care for urgent cases
- Supervising and mentoring junior medical staff, fostering a culture of learning and development within the department
- Work closely with the department’s existing Glaucoma Consultant to develop the Glaucoma Ophthalmology
- Actively participating in clinical governance, audits, and service improvement initiatives
- Developing specialist services, with opportunities to focus on areas such as cataract surgery, medical retina, or glaucoma management, depending on your interests and expertise
This is a full-time post with a 10 PA job plan, which includes dedicated time for teaching, research, and service development. The department encourages innovation and welcomes candidates who bring new ideas and subspecialty interests.

The Requirements
Essential:
- Full GMC registration with inclusion on the Specialist Register for Ophthalmology (or eligibility within six months of the interview date)
- Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and managing complex ophthalmic conditions
- Competence in performing ophthalmic surgical procedures
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Desirable:
- Subspecialty interest and experience in cataract surgery, medical retina, or glaucoma management
- Previous experience in an NHS Consultant role or equivalent
- A record of research, publications, or service development initiatives
