An exciting opportunity has arisen in the South East of the UK for a Permanent Consultant role in Respiratory Medicine. The welcoming team are looking for doctors who can contribute to both clinical service delivery and teaching, helping to enhance the quality of care for a diverse patient population.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Participation in inpatient and outpatient settings, the department plans to create a Respiratory Outpatient Clinical area with dedicated facilities and 6 bedded inpatient Respiratory Support Unit within the ward
  • Conducting specialist consultations, clinical assessments, and diagnoses for a range of respiratory conditions
  • Leading ward rounds and coordinating care for patients in the hospital, ensuring high standards of clinical governance
  • Contributing to the Respiratory department’s service development, including involvement in clinical audits, pathway reviews, and guideline creation
  • Mentoring and supervising junior doctors and trainees
  • Optional participation in the General Physician on-call rota for non-selected acute take

The Requirements

Essential criteria:

  • GMC recognised medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
  • MRCP (UK or Ireland) or equivalent
  • Certification of Completion of Training (CCT) in Respiratory Medicine, or eligibility to achieve CCT within 6 months of the interview date
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership and mentoring to junior staff, with experience in collaborative clinical or laboratory research
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills and the ability to manage complex cases
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Proficient in office and internet applications (word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, database analysis and email)

Desirable criteria:

  • Level 1 competent in Pleural Ultrasound
  • Sub specialist interest in NIV, Sleep, ILD and Pleural disease
  • Previously peer-reviewed journals
  • Familiar with IT based patient information systems
