We are delighted to present an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a Specialist Interest in Paediatrics to join a forward-thinking Ophthalmology team within a well-established NHS Trust.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Paediatrics, you will play a pivotal role in delivering expert care to young patients while contributing to the broader Ophthalmology services. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing specialised Paediatric ophthalmology services, including assessment, diagnosis, and management of eye conditions in children
  • Performing surgeries, including those relevant to Paediatric ophthalmology, and supporting general ophthalmology surgical cases
  • Leading outpatient clinics for Paediatric and general Ophthalmology patients
  • Participating in the on-call rota to provide expert guidance for urgent and emergency cases
  • Contributing to the teaching and training of medical students, junior doctors, and multidisciplinary staff
  • Engaging in service development and quality improvement initiatives, particularly in Paediatric ophthalmology
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care for patients

The Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Ophthalmology or eligibility within six months from the date of interview
  • Significant experience in Paediatric ophthalmology, including managing complex cases
  • Proficiency in general Ophthalmology and cataract surgery
  • A strong commitment to patient-centred care and service improvement

Desirable Criteria:

  • Additional qualifications or sub-specialty training in Paediatric Ophthalmology
  • Experience in teaching, training, and mentorship
  • Experience in research or involvement in quality improvement projects
