Are you a dynamic and skilled Consultant Ophthalmologist looking for a fulfilling role in a thriving hospital environment? We are working with a forward-thinking NHS Trust to recruit a Consultant in Ophthalmology with a subspecialty interest in Glaucoma.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Consultant in Ophthalmology, you will provide high-quality care in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of ophthalmic conditions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering outpatient, inpatient, and surgical services within the Ophthalmology Department.
  • Taking an active role in a subspecialty service, with opportunities to develop a specialist interest.
  • Participating in a 1:6 on-call rota, ensuring timely, expert care for emergency cases.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior medical staff, contributing to their professional development.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
  • Undertaking clinical audits, research, and teaching commitments in line with the department’s academic goals.

The position is full-time, typically 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week, with the option to negotiate flexible working patterns.

The Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • Specialist registration or eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register in Ophthalmology.
  • Comprehensive training and expertise in general ophthalmology, with proficiency in managing cataracts and other common conditions.
  • Experience in teaching and supervising junior medical staff.

Desirable Criteria:

  • A subspecialty interest, particularly in glaucoma, medical retina, or oculoplastics.
  • Demonstrated involvement in clinical audits, research, or quality improvement initiatives.
  • A commitment to continued professional development and participation in innovative practices.
