We are excited to present an opportunity for a Consultant Paediatrician with a specialist interest in Diabetes and Endocrinology. This position offers the chance to work in a supportive and close-knit team, delivering high quality care to children and young people in the West Midlands. 

Role and Responsibilities

This is a substantive consultant post, designed for a dedicated professional with a keen interest in Paediatric diabetes and endocrinology. The successful candidate will join an established multidisciplinary team, collaborating to deliver exceptional care.

You will lead on the management of children and adolescents with diabetes and endocrine disorders, working closely with families to provide comprehensive and personalized treatment plans. Duties will include outpatient clinics, ward rounds, and contribution to specialist diabetes and endocrinology services, such as insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring.

The role includes participation in the general Paediatric on-call rota and cross-site word where needed . Working hours will be structured but offer flexibility to accommodate clinical, teaching, and administrative responsibilities.

This role also presents opportunities to engage in research, teaching, and quality improvement projects. The department supports innovation and values contributions to enhancing patient care pathways and outcomes.

The hospital is a leading provider of Paediatric services in the region, renowned for its state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to excellence. With over 400 beds, it serves a diverse population and is equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment technologies.

The Paediatric department has a strong reputation for both general and specialist care, with a dedicated diabetes and endocrinology unit that manages a significant number of cases annually. The multidisciplinary team includes Paediatricians, specialist nurses, dietitians, and psychologists, ensuring a holistic approach to care.

The Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • MRCPCH
  • MBBS or equivalent, ALPLS or equivalent
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for paediatrics or within 6 months of obtaining registration
  • Minimum 1 year of training and experience in neonatology, of which 6 months in a Level 3 unit
  • Training and experience in paediatric diabetes and endocrinology
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Commitment to continual professional development

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in research or quality improvement initiatives
  • Higher Degree (BSc, MSc etc.)
