For many years there has been, and continues to be, a shortage of sonographers in the United Kingdom.  With in the increase in physical capacity through the Community Diagnostic Programme, the staff numbers need to increase and BDI is proud to be working with one of the largest NHS Trusts in the U.K. as part of a pilot programme with NHS England to provide support and development to South African educated sonographers through a 6-month UK Practice Conversion Programme.  Upon successful completion candidates will practice independently at Band 7 along side UK trained counterparts using our Imaging Academy support and partnering with a prestigious London University. 

Individuals looking to relocate to the UK will receive a dedicated Practice Educator to assess and provide for in country training needs, coordinated pastoral care and a comprehensive onboarding experience. 

JOB OVERVIEW 

We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated, band 7 sonographers to join a friendly and forward thinking ultrasound team for an NHS Trust in London. Providing a comprehensive non-obstetric ultrasound service as part of the Community Diagnostic Programme but with an opportunity to work across hospital sites and specialties. 

Duties 

  • Perform high quality ultrasound examinations using analytical and judgement skills to interpret complex images.
  • Formulate comprehensive, diagnostic, independently written reports for each examination
  • Communicate distressing and unwelcome/unexpected news directly to patients using tact, empathy and diplomacy.
  • Communicate complex information regarding diagnosis/treatment directly to clinicians and patients.
  • Maintain personal clinical expertise in ultrasound scanning including ongoing CPD
  • Review, update and maintain the patients’ clinical records.
  • Participate in teaching students and clinicians in the field of ultrasound. Participate in the vetting of ultrasound requests.
  • Deal with conflicting demands from different staff groups at all levels.
  • Have flexible approach to work and ability to work under pressure of high workloads.

  • HPCSA self-registered as a sonographer   

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria

  • Must have worked as a sonographer carrying out a wide range of general ultrasound procedures.
  • Must have undertaken public service in South Africa and have some reporting expertise to be part of this programme
