An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join a dynamic team in the West Midlands. The successful applicant will join a department committed to delivering state-of-the-art cancer treatments, while  fostering a supportive environment for both patients and staff.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive Oncology Care: Provide a full range of oncology services, including new patient assessments and follow-up clinics at our main hospital and peripheral sites
  • Collaborative Support: Offer support and coverage for consultant colleagues during periods of leave, ensuring seamless patient care
  • Service Development: Contribute actively to the continuous improvement and development of our oncology services
  • Education and Training: Engage in teaching and training activities to meet continuous professional development standards and support our trainees
  • Clinical Governance: Participate in audits and contribute to clinical governance initiatives to uphold high standards of care
  • Leadership: Assume leadership roles within the department and broader NHS structures to enhance patient outcomes and experiences

The successful candidate will primarily care for patients with lung malignancies. The secondary tumour site is negotiable, with possibilities including lower gastrointestinal, breast, or urological cancers, among others. The position is mainly based at the central hospital, with outpatient clinics at one of the peripheral sites.

The trust operates hospital-based services from three sites, serving diverse communities. Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and Licence to Practice 
  • Demonstrated experience in managing lung malignancies
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and participation in clinical audits
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in managing additional tumour sites, such as lower gastrointestinal, breast, or urological cancers
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register for Clinical Oncology (Or CCT expected within 6 months of interview) 
  • Previous involvement in teaching and training medical trainees
  • Participation in clinical research and trials
