We are thrilled to announce an exceptional opportunity for a fixed-term Consultant at one of the largest NHS Cardiac Centres. This position is designed for a skilled and dynamic Anaesthetist eager to advance their career in Cardiothoracic Surgery. In this role, you will deliver anaesthetic care to both local and regional patients, managing innovative and complex cases. Beyond your clinical responsibilities, you will be instrumental in driving service development through active involvement in teaching, research, and audit initiatives.
You will become an integral part of a supportive team of 48 anaesthetists and intensivists providing cardiothoracic, general anaesthesia and critical care.
This opportunity is ideally suited for a doctor who has completed an advanced fellowship or specialized training program in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia.

- 10 catheter labs (including 2 hybrid rooms)
- 255 general cardiac beds
- 98 higher acuity care beds, including 58 Level 3 critical care beds
It hosts one of the busiest surgical programmes in Europe and performs more HAC PCIs, cardiac MRIs, and CT scans than any other centre globally. The hospital has a well-established ECLS programme for respiratory and cardiac support.
The Main Requirements of the Job
- The job rota will initially be structured around a 10 PA (40-hour week).
- Responsibilities include preoperative evaluation and postoperative care in both the ward and the cardiac intensive care unit.
- Theatre sessions will be scheduled according to the job plan, to be agreed upon with clinicians prior to your start date.
- Actively participate in teaching junior staff, cardiothoracic fellows, subspecialty nurses, and MDT staff.
- Participate in the on-call rota for cardiac services.
- Engage in professional audits and continuing professional development activities.

Requirements
In order to apply for this role, you will need:
- GMC Registration complete (or awaiting ID check)
- Recognized post graduate degree (EDAIC, EDIC, MRCP, FRCA, USMLE)
- Language test (OET or IELTS)
- ECFMG verification
- Experience in a similar position overseas or locally (Specialty Doctor/Specialist/Senior Resident)
- Experience working as a Fellow or an Advanced Trainee in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia
- Independent TOE skills
