BDI Resourcing are working with a large Level 3 Neonatal Centre in the South of England to fill the post of Consultant in Neonatal Medicine. It is a state-of-the-art purpose-built centre, specifically to house the level 3 Neonatal unit and other related maternity services. It is a very tight-knit team in the Neonatal center, and they are looking for someone to join to settle in with them in the long-term. This means they are very supportive and looking to develop individuals’ careers within the team. They have recently helped two doctors through the CESR pathway within Neonatology.
Main Duties:
- Undertake Consultant neonatal duties including providing and supervising medical care to neonates within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit NICU, postnatal wards and neonatal clinics.
- Participate in the Consultant on-call rota within Neonatology.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within subspecialties, Obstetrics, Midwifery and the Foetal Medicine service.
- Participate and lead in all processes around clinical governance, clinical audit and risk management/patient safety processes.
- Provide high-quality training and supervision for junior doctors and nurses within the neonatal department.
- Actively participate in any research projects or audits that involve the department.
The Hospital:
The Neonatal unit itself is located in the newly built, state-of-the-art women and children’s centre, which provides the ideal working environment.
The NICU provides level 3 care for babies needing ongoing treatment at all gestational ages, with a full range of specialist neonatal services including all modes of invasive and non-invasive ventilation, therapeutic cooling and inhaled nitric oxide, onsite facilities for cranial ultrasound and neonatal echocardiography.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop an area of subspecialty interest, for example respiratory, neurology, neurodevelopment, nutrition, cardiac, renal, as well as the opportunity for management.
The location:
You’ll be based in a large city in the south of England which includes all the typical amenities you can think of including schools, shops, gyms, cafes, restaurants and parks. Being in the south of England gives you great connection links to London, a direct train takes only just over an hour between the two places. The city’s population is very multicultural, so for those doctors coming from an international background it’s easy to get settled. If you’re religious you’ll have access to a range of mosques, temples or churches close to the hospital.
Requirements:

Essential for the post:
- Full registration with General Medical Council
- At least one full year of Consultant experience in either level 2 or level 3 NICU within the NHS.
- MRCPCH
- NLS certification
- Two or more years training/experience in Neonatology at regional/level 3 unit
Desirable for the post:
- A higher qualification e.g. M.D. or PhD.
- Paediatric/Neonatal CCT
- If no CCT, evidence of CESR application in progress
- NLS Instructor
