This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest sub-specialist non-surgical cancer centres in the UK as an NHS Locum Consultant in Clinical Oncology, as part of the Trust’s recently funded service expansion. The Trust are currently expanding their Urology and Skin cancer senior teams, however, applicants with outside interests are also encouraged to apply as the department are happy to consider and accommodate other secondary tumour-site interests. This is a fantastic opportunity for Oncologists looking to build their senior practice or individuals looking to advance their career in a leading tertiary cancer centre. As a senior member of the oncology team, you will still have access to clinical mentors within your multidisciplinary teams that will support with any clinical queries, as well as an Educational Supervisor that will work with you on your professional development plan. This includes receiving guidance and structural support to sign off competencies for CESR, as part of your portfolio pathway application for Specialist Registration. As part of your standard 10 PA (40-hour per-week) job plan you can expect the following duties:
You can expect the following duties and responsibilities from the job plan:
- Join established multidisciplinary teams for Urology and relevant secondary tumour site
- Leading out-patient clinics
- Contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings
- Planning and delivering radiotherapy
- Participating in teaching and training of medical and non-medical staff, including undergraduates
- Supervising junior doctors including appraisal and assessment
- Recruiting for active clinical trials and participating in research
- Dedicated time for Supporting Professional Activities
- pursuing personal CME and CPD, with the guidance of a Mentor (Study leave and Study Bursary available)
- Participating in clinical governance and audit activities as part of senior team requirements

Cancer Centre
The Cancer Centre is one of the largest in the UK, providing cancer care to a population of over 2 million. They provide a comprehensive range of inpatient care, acute oncology, advanced radiotherapy, systemic anti-cancer therapies and radiology. The radiotherapy department is advanced and up to date, with access to the NHS Linacs (Truebeams with 6-DoF couches, Clinac IX, Novalis TX with Siemens Confidence scanner, Edge) and radiotherapy planning using Varian Eclipse (PET/CT planning, CT radiotherapy planning, MRI planning)
You’ll be a joining a large multidisciplinary team including Consultant Oncologists, Haematologists, Radiologists, Physicians, Nurses, non-medical prescribers, and a large cohort of Medical Students, Registrars, Specialty Doctors, Clinical Fellows, and Juniors. The Centre is adjacent to the local University and has close links with the local Medical School. The Trust have a have a strong emphasis on Medical Education and have a team of Supervisors which cover all grades, from undergraduate to consultant level. Further development is encouraged and supported as part of the Trust’s CPD programme (i.e. Specialist Registration via CESR portfolio pathway) and the department have fantastic academic links with their local universities. Oncologists are encouraged to participate in research, clinical trials and teaching and the department have an excellent infrastructure in place to support studies and have a world-class reputation for research and innovation as one of the largest centres in Europe.

Requirements
- GMC Registration with License to Practice – essential
- Ability to practice independently at senior level – essential
- FRCR (UK) or equivalent postgraduate medical qualification – desirable
