A fantastic Health Board in South Wales have three locum consultant positions available for individuals. These roles will expand their team to eight consultants, including three substantive members, providing top-tier haematology services.

The Department

Our Clinical Haematology department is part of Cancer Services. The Key features include:

  • BCSH level III patient care
  • 10-20 inpatient beds for intensive chemotherapy for haematological malignancies, including acute leukaemia, ATG for aplastic anaemia, and lymphoma salvage regimes
  • A dedicated 4-bed unit for autologous stem cell transplants
  • A busy day unit for day case chemotherapy and procedures, managed by experienced haematology-trained nurses
  • A sub-regional haemophilia centre supported by specialist consultants from the Regional Haemophilia Centre in Cardiff, along with a team of 2 WTE CNS, physiotherapists, psychologists, and administrative support

The team’s haematology services operate at BCSH level 3. Inpatient responsibilities include:

  • Managing acute leukaemia, relapsed lymphoma, and autologous stem cell transplants
  • Providing supportive care for non-malignant haematology conditions requiring inpatient support
  • You will participate in the 1 in 7 on call rota with prospective cover
  • You will participate in the specialty’s postgraduate teaching sessions.
  • Provide informal and “bedside” teaching to undergraduate medical students where appropriate, particularly during ward rounds, in the emergency department, during outpatient clinics and during operations and procedures. 

Patient care operates at BCSH level III, with 10-20 in-patient beds catering for the management of patients undergoing intensive chemotherapy for haematological malignancy including acute leukaemia, ATG for aplastic anaemia and lymphoma salvage regimes along with a dedicated 4 bedded unit for autologous stem cell transplants. 

There is a busy day unit for day case chemotherapy and procedures co-located with the inpatient facilities, and managed by an experienced team of haematology trained nurses. There is a sub-regional haemophilia centre supported through specialist Consultant input from the Regional Haemophilia centre along with 2 WTE CNS, Physio, Psychologist and administration support on site.

Requirements

  • Full GMC Registration (or invitation to ID check) – Essential
  • Specialty specific experience in Haematology – Essential
  • Specialty specific post graduate qualification in Haematology – Essential
  • MRCP or FRCpath
