This is a brand-new programme at a leading tertiary referral cancer centre that has been designed to help senior Oncology doctors gain their remaining clinical and educational competencies for their CESR applications, so they can work towards securing GMC Specialist Registration. This programme is for both Clinical and Medical Oncology doctors that have experience in a range of tumour sites that are looking for formal structural support with their portfolio pathways for Specialist Registration. Each Oncology doctor on this programme will be assigned a Clinical and Education Supervisor to support their professional development and will have a rotating job plan to support their individual training requirements to ensure they can gather all of the necessary competencies for a Specialist Registration application. The Trust have a fantastic reputation for supporting overseas trained Oncology doctors into their first UK roles, as well as helping doctors currently working in the UK with their career progression in the NHS. The programme is designed to support the Consultant body by providing additional out-patient clinical support and will have flexibility to support your individual clinical interests. Av overview of the full range of clinical duties will include:
- Conducting out-patient clinics in a supervised capacity to support demand
- Radiotherapy planning sessions (if Clinical Oncology doctor)
- Prescribing SACT (alongside SACT passport training)
- Contributing to site-specific multidisciplinary team meetings
- Partaking in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching
- Participating in academic research and clinical trial recruitment
- Dedicated time for Continued Professional Development (SPAs)

Cancer Centre
The Cancer Centre is part of one of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts and provides state of the art tertiary level cancer services for the surrounding catchment area and is a regional referral centre for complex treatment cases for Oncology. Patients are referred from across the UK to receive a wide arrange of specialised treatment options in both RT and SACT using the latest technology. The Trust is a leader in Oncology trial recruitment and has strong links with the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) and has a well-funded research team that collaborates closely with local Universities. There is a purpose built Oncology unit, clinic space and neighbouring chemotherapy suites that are well-staffed and led by Cancer Nurse Specialist (CNS). The Cancer Centre offers a range of radiotherapy equipment and services including:
- 7x Varian Truebeam machines
- Access to Adaptive Varian ETHOS™ system
- High-dose Brachytherapy service, including prostate, gynaecological, rectal and oesophageal
- Established (and growing) SABR programme for Lung and Oligometastases
- Virtual Simulators (spiral CT scanner)

The Requirements
- Full GMC Registration, or eligibility for GMC registration via post-graduate qualification pathway (essential)
- Previous clinical experience as an Oncology doctor (essential)
- Steps towards securing MRCP (UK) or FRCR (UK) (desirable)
