Are you passionate about respiratory medicine and looking to join a dynamic and forward-thinking team? A supportive West Midlands Trust is searching for a skilled Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, with a specialist interest in Sleep and Ventilation, to join their team.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality care to patients with a variety of respiratory conditions.
Your duties will include:
- Providing specialist respiratory care across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings
- Contributing to the management of acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, lung cancer, interstitial lung disease, and sleep disorders
- Supporting the Acute Medical Take as part of a shared on-call rota
- Leading and supervising a multidisciplinary team, including junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals
- Driving innovation and service development in line with clinical and operational goals
- Participating in teaching and training, mentoring junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals
- Engaging in audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives to ensure the highest standards of care
This position offers opportunities to develop a subspecialty interest, with scope for personalised clinical focus. The role also includes a full-time commitment of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week, with flexibility to accommodate professional development and work-life balance.

The Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register or within six months of achieving CCT at the time of the interview.
- Experience in managing a wide range of respiratory conditions and able to independently manage patient care
- Experience in clinical audit
- Interest in and willingness to develop teaching abilities and activities
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Desirable Criteria:
- Subspecialty interest that complements the department’s existing services
- Experience in teaching, training, and research, having peer reviewed prior publications
- Ability to work under pressure, within a multidisciplinary team
