This Hospital stands as a bustling district general hospital and a primary hub for vascular care, boasting an extensive array of surgical specialties. Within its anaesthetic departments, there's a continuous influx of trainee anaesthetists at various stages of their training. Consequently, the role offers a unique opportunity for the incumbent to gain hands-on clinical training in line with the Royal College of Anaesthetists' curriculum competencies. This position suits those aspiring to complement their experience for CESR application.

The Job

You will be actively encouraged to participate in relevant courses and meetings that complement your training, offering a platform for showcasing research or audit projects. Flexibility for study leave will be granted, subject to approval by the clinical and educational supervisor, to support attendance at these events.

Initially, you will undergo close supervision during sessions involving routine regional anaesthesia practices. As the fellowship progresses, you will gradually take on some of these sessions independently, albeit with distant supervision.

Expect an average of 4-5 theatre sessions per week over an 8-week cycle, covering orthopaedics, plastics, and general surgery to provide comprehensive exposure to regional anaesthetic techniques.

Supervision for this role will be provided by both the college tutor and an assigned educational supervisor.

Past fellows in this role have successfully obtained recognition for training from the Deanery, College, and GMC upon request.

Main Duties

The appointee will participate in the department’s education programs as a learner and educator, while overseeing relevant educational activities. The Hospital offers alternate weekly primary tutorials and lunchtime scanning workshops.

Regarding clinical governance, the Trust ensures compliance with UK and EU legislation, emphasizing staff competence, education, and adherence to procedures for equipment use. You're expected to work within your abilities and promptly report any concerns about competence to your manager, who will follow the Trust's "Managing Job Performance" policy.

All Trust employees must prioritize their health, seek support through the Occupational Health department, and follow infection prevention policies, especially hand hygiene. Additionally, you're responsible for reporting any safeguarding concerns about children or adults to your manager and the relevant safeguarding lead within the Trust.
