This is a great opportunity to work with a fantastic department who will work with you and support the successful candidate CESR to become a specialist registered consultant.
The post will suit doctors who are passionate and motivated to partake in an acute service and can make sound clinical decisions.
As a Specialist you will be expected to act as a senior decision maker, being able to work in acute medicine independently will be paramount. The department is staffed by a friendly team of doctors who have proven very welcoming of IMGs in the past.
Main Duties:
The appointment will be for 10 programmed activity sessions which will be divided into 8 PAs as Direct Clinical Care, 1.5 SPAs and 0.5 PAs as admin time.
Conduct ward rounds in a timely manner, making sure all electronic documentation is complete in line with trust policy.
You will have hands-on involvement with medical admissions to the Acute Medicine Unit, focusing on timely assessment, management and discharge.
As a senior member of the team you will supervise junior doctors, ANPs & nurse consultants seeing patients in our medical SDEC & on AMU. You will also be expected to teach and train medical students from the local medical school.
There is no commitment to the general physician on call rota (though this can be negotiated if required).
You’ll be encouraged to pursue a special interest as part of your SPA hours.
It is expected that you will participate in research involving the acute medicine department.
You will be required to maintain and develop your clinical skills through continued professional development.
The Hospital:
The hospital is a medium-sized university teaching hospital with a full range of services within medicine. The Acute Medicine Unit prides itself as a Centre of Diagnostic Excellence. The department are lovely to work with and have proven exceptionally welcoming of international doctors. Doctors tend to stay for years here, a large part of that is due to the friendly, family-like atmosphere within department. Patients are managed effectively and efficiently. This is due in large part to the ethos of the team – one team one family.
The location:
The hospital is based in a medium-sized city in the north west of England. The city is famed for its excellent education institutions: there are multiple state grammar schools here, the city also has two well-rated universities. The local area surrounding the hospital has some of the lowest housing prices across England. You’re also within easy reach of larger cities like Manchester and Liverpool for leisure and transport. The city is a short drive away from the Lake District which is one the most beautiful areas of the UK, its full of mountains and lakes and proves very popular during the summer months.
Requirements:
To apply for this position, you will need the following:
- GMC registration complete or in process
- Previous experience of working independently within an acute medical setting
The following are preferred but not essential:
- MRCP
- SCE Acute Medicine
