An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Grade Doctor in Oncology (Breast & an additional tumour site) at a highly reputable NHS Foundation Trust. You will be joining a friendly and well established specialised Consultant Team, who aim to support their specialists with specialist registration applications.  

This role would suit a senior doctor who is interested in gaining further clinical and non-clinical experience before applying for specialist registration through CESR.

The hospital is a trust of 2 site bases and you would have the flexibility to work cross site with the acute oncology services.

This job has no on-call commitments.

The Team

The non-surgical oncology service for the Trust is currently provided by 21 clinical and 10 medical oncologists – providing radiotherapy (adult and children), brachytherapy and chemotherapy (adult) services to all the surrounding hospitals.

Main Duties

  • The post is for 10 Programmed Activities
  • Clinical management of breast malignancies.
  • Working with the existing multidisciplinary team including consultants, CNS, pharmacists to provide excellent patient care.
  • Independently looking after patients at all stages of their pathway including prescribing treatment.
  • Completion of outpatient clinics throughout the week to enable new, follow up and pre assessment patients to be seen.
  • Supervision and teaching of clinical fellows and ANPs
  • Dependent on experience and relevant qualifications – there is scope to contribute to planning and delivering radiotherapy.

  • There is a session for development of a specific interest for the successful applicant
  • The successful candidate will have a nominated supervisor and will be encouraged to progress and develop within their oncology career
  • Encouraged to get involved in quality improvement and audit projects within the department
  • Involved in supervision and teaching of clinical fellows and ANPs
  • Be involved in managing patients within clinical trials and participate in clinical trials projects
  • The Trust supports the requirements for CME and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities
  • CESR Support allocated
  • Study leave entitlement

Requirements

In order to apply for this role you will need:

  • Full GMC Registration (or have been invited to your ID check in the UK)
  • A recognised post graduate qualification (e.g. FRCR or MRCP)
  • Great English language skills (evidenced via an OET or IELTS exam)
  • Experience in a similar position either overseas or domestically (Specialty Doctor/Specialist/Senior Resident)
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
