Specialist in Medical Oncology

Join a University Hospital Trust in the Midlands on a Specialist contract in Medical Oncology. This Specialist contract is perfect if you’re hoping for a Consultant role in the NHS however haven’t yet achieved GMC Specialist Registration. If you’re in the process of CESR/Portfolio pathway, the expectation will be for you to be supported in-post to reach Specialist Registration and the contract is permanent so it will give you plenty of time to work on the application. The main site requirements are Hepatobiliary and the job plan is flexible to incorporate a flexible secondary tumour site of your preference. As a Specialist in Oncology, you’ll be working closely with site-specific consultant colleagues who will offer a prolonged induction to post and on-going support. You’ll also be allocated a Consultant Mentor who will review your job plan every 6 months and help you to maintain goals within continuing professional development. There’s a well-balanced job plan based on a 10PA= 40 hours per week job plan with no on-call or out-of-hours commitments. It will include:

• Running tumour site specific outpatient clinics
• Managing patient related admin
• Prescribing SACT
• Partaking in oncology inpatient ward round
• Contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings
• Supporting professional activities (developing skills such as leadership/time management, quality improvement, patient safety, governance, local incident training)
• Continuing medical education and relevant additional training
• Teaching and training junior colleagues and undergraduate/postgraduate medical students, with courses available for Clinical and Education supervision
• Partaking in research projects and recruiting for clinical trials

Cancer Centre

The Trust is the largest employer of the region helping over 3 million people. It is a regional teaching hospital home to a specialist tertiary referral Cancer Centre. In the Cancer Centre, there are several dedicated oncology inpatient wards and outpatient departments. There’s also a well-staffed Acute Oncology Service. There are 32 consultants in clinical and medical oncology who work in site specific multidisciplinary teams. The Trust is home to a successful academic training programme of clinical fellows in oncology, as well as an oncology specialist training programme of registrar trainees in oncology. The Trust is a major centre for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and ensures that consultants and specialist are developed and supported to offer the best possible experience for trainees and students. The centre has strong links with the local University Medical School and has a very active clinical trials portfolio to get involved with.

Requirements

• GMC Registration with License to Practice (essential)
• Minimum 12 years of postgraduate experience and 6 years specialty specific experience in Oncology (essential)
• MRCP or equivalent postgraduate medical qualification (desirable)
