Speciality Doctor in General Paediatrics and Neonatology
- £59,175 - £95,400
- UK, South East
- Fixed
BDI Resourcing are currently looking for a General Paediatrics doctor with experience working in a level 1 SCBU setting to work in an excellent Hospital Trust in the South East of England. You will be expected to stabilise and intubate babies from the delivery suite as early as 28 weeks gestation in order to prepare them for Neonatal transfer to the local NICU unit. Experience working in a busy Emergency or Acute paediatric setting is essential and you’ll be expected to be competent in paediatric resuscitation.
The Hospital, Department and Trust
Working in one of three acute hospital sites in the Trust, you’ll be in a medium-sized hospital with a large Paediatric unit and Level 1 SCBU. The Paediatrics unit provides 24/7 care for children and a busy maternity unit provides a regular need for level 1 neonatal care. Babies of earlier gestation are stabilised and transported using the local neonatal transfer to supporting level 2 and NICU centres.
The Trust itself has done a lot of international recruitment over the years, making it a great place for your first position in the NHS. The hospital prioritises a supportive working environment by providing mentorship programs, professional development opportunities and a strong support system due to having access to experienced physicians that can guide you. Permanent Specialty Doctors in Paediatrics can be given the opportunity to rotate into a level 3 Neonatal unit for 6 months and acquire the competencies in RCPCH curriculum in community paediatrics within the Trust CESR project.
The Location:
Based in the south of England, the location is a lovely place to raise a family, with lots of natural beauty and space for play. You’ll also find yourself near to London and can be there in an hour and a half to have a great day out, visiting cultural landmarks. London is a national hub for international markets and shops in the UK, so having access to these facilities is great. It’s a good balance of being able to visit the bustling capital city on days off, while having a much lower cost of living compared to London. We know how important it is to keep in touch with loved ones who are living overseas, the nearest international airport is a short 1.5 hours drive away (London Gatwick).
Main Duties:
The successful applicant will work a 12PA contract (average 48 hour working week attracting a 20% uplift on basic salary).
You’ll join a shift rotation, working both night and day shifts. During the night, a junior trainee and a consultant on call from home are also present.
Additionally, middle-grade doctors participate in outpatient clinics, quality improvement projects, and departmental meetings. They are also involved in tutorials, training exercises, and rota management but do not teach medical students. Opportunities to develop specializations are provided.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have:
- Completed GMC registration with license to practice
- Experience in Acute Paediatrics & Paediatrics ED
- Qualifications in Paediatric life support and safeguarding
- Experience regularly intubating babies at 28 weeks
- UK/Irish experience as a middle grade
