An exciting opportunity awaits a dedicated Specialty Doctor in Medical Retina Ophthalmology to join a dynamic team in South Wales. This is a 12-month fixed-term role with a view of being made permanent.  

Role and Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering specialist care in medical retina ophthalmology, including diagnosis and management of conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal vein occlusions
  • Conducting outpatient clinics with a focus on medical retina patients
  • Performing intravitreal injections and other minor procedures related to the sub-specialty
  • Supporting the department’s general ophthalmology services as required, including on-call participation
  • Collaborating with consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals to deliver integrated care
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical case discussions
  • Contributing to clinical audits, quality improvement projects, and governance initiatives
  • Mentoring junior medical staff and medical students

The Requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Full registration GMC with a Licence to Practise
  • A minimum of four years’ postgraduate medical experience, including two years in ophthalmology
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing medical retina conditions
  • Competency in intravitreal injections and related procedures
  • Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous professional development

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in teaching and mentoring junior medical staff
  • Evidence of engagement in clinical governance and quality improvement projects
  • Strong communication and team-working skills
