This role is perfect for a motivated and experienced doctor looking for a role that provides opportunities for further clinical and surgical specialised training in vitreoretina, cataract, cornea, and anterior segment.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology, you will play a key role in delivering comprehensive care to a wide range of patients. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting outpatient clinics, diagnosing and managing various ophthalmic conditions.
- Assisting in and performing surgical procedures under supervision, depending on experience.
- Participating in a 1:8 on-call rota to provide care for emergency ophthalmic cases.
- Collaborating with consultants and the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care and excellent clinical outcomes.
- Contributing to teaching and training junior staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
- Engaging in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
The role provides opportunities to develop specialist interests and gain experience in a wide range of ophthalmic subspecialties. Working hours and job planning are flexible, allowing for a balance between professional development and personal commitments.

The Requirements
Essential:
- Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practise
- Minimum of four years of postgraduate medical training, including at least two years in ophthalmology
- Demonstrable experience in managing a wide range of ophthalmic conditions
- Commitment to delivering patient-centred care and working effectively in a team
Desirable:
- Experience or interest in subspecialty areas such as glaucoma, medical retina, or oculoplastics
- Evidence of participation in teaching, research, or quality improvement initiatives
- Strong organisational and communication skills
