Job Summary: 

Responsibilities include providing anaesthesia for elective orthopaedic surgeries under local consultant supervision, adhering to local protocols, and participating in the ESEOC rota, which involves covering the 2-4 bed Post-Operative Care Unit (POCU) and supporting a Foundation Doctor across three elective orthopaedic wards (up to 72 beds total). The role involves assessing deteriorating patients and, if necessary, transferring unstable patients to the main hospital's critical care unit.

Main Duties of the Job:

This is an expansion post within the Anaesthesia Department, designed to add senior anaesthetists to the workforce. The role is ideal for candidates interested in urgent surgery, post-operative care, and trauma, with potential for specialization through job planning.

 

Specific Duties:

  • Clinical: Collaborate with all surgical specialties related to the Anaesthetic Directorate, maintain a logbook, and continue professional development through appraisals.
  • Administrative: Participate in Anaesthetic Directorate meetings and audits.
  • Teaching: Engage in the departmental teaching program and provide education to junior colleagues and the multidisciplinary team, including participation in local and regional training programs.
  • Clinical Governance: Comply with the Trust's policies, including clinical risk management, data collection, and departmental audits.
  • Research: Encourage involvement in research activities, including submitting abstracts and presenting at regional and national meetings.
  • On-Call Commitment: Participate in a full shift working pattern for the POCU on-call rota.

The post requires high levels of competence, autonomy, enthusiasm, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

 

Requirements

In order to apply for this role, you will need:

  • GMC Registration complete (or awaiting ID check)
  • Recognized post graduate degree (EDAIC, EDIC, MRCP, FRCA, USMLE)
  • Language test (OET or IELTS)
  • ECFMG verification
  • Experience in a similar position overseas or locally
  • Preferably having experience in the NHS at middle grade
