The two successful candidates will join as Specialty Doctors in Emergency Medicine. This is an excellent opportunity to join a NHS Foundation Trust within 30mins of Central Manchester. 

The Job

The specialty doctor posts will support the A&E middle grade rotaa. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver emergency clinical care with the support of consultants. You will provide clinical, administrative, supervisory, educational and training support for the day-to-day functioning of the department. Most importantly, you will have responsibility for clinical cover of the shop floor. The post holder will be expected to participate fully in this rota. 

The Department hold monthly structured Clinical Governance meetings and departmental meetings, which the Specialty doctors are expected to attend and contribute towards giving successful candidates opportunity to develop outside of their clinical hours.

The post holder will be responsible for the following: 

  • Ensuring the effective organisation of the reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and emergency treatment of all patients presenting to the ED.
  • The appropriate discharge of patients to a specialist unit or other hospitals, or GP.
  • The direct supervision and training of the junior staff and emergency nurses working within the ED as well as the organisation and delegation of clinical work. 
  • To contribute to the periodic reviews and verifications of Major Incident Plans. 
  • To monitor the quality of service which includes clinical audit. 
  • Active participation at various committees and working groups. 
  • Participation in development of emergency treatment protocols. 
  • Professional supervision under consultant guidance aiming to encourage the development of all doctors within the department.
  • Involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit. 

The Job plan includes 10 Programmed Activities, with the option to undertake up two additional PA’s per week. There will be a 1:4 weekend rota.

The Trust

The hospital provides a wide variety of high quality services within the core hospital and the local community caring for both adults and children. This opportunity is best suited for A&E doctors who wish to join a smaller emergency department that caters for a population of approximately 250,000 people. The Emergency Department provides a 24-hour service, and see approximately 100,000 emergency cases per year including paediatric emergencies. The Urgent Care family includes an Acute and Integrated Assessment Unit, a GP Assessment unit and an Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit. There is also a co-located urgent treatment centre.

The Requirements

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification (MRCEM) or Equivalent 
  • IELTS or OET if you are coming from overseas
  • 3 years Registrar level experience (or above) in A&E
