Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine

Salary Range – (£59,175 – £95,400)

Location – South Wales

Duration – Fixed-term and permanent contracts to be offered

 

Requirements:

To apply for this position, you will need all the following:

•           Fully registered with the GMC with licence to practise

•           Previous NHS experience as lead registrar on shift

•           At least 2 of the following Life Support Courses in-date: ALS, ATLS, PALS

 

The Job

  • 10 PA Job plan including SPA time weekly.
  • Provide a 24/7 Emergency Medicine service to the hospital and community.
  • Clinical staff are also required to comply with the requirements of their professional organisation regarding supervision.
  • The successful candidate would be expected to take part in a Middle Grade rota which covers 24hrs. They would be the Senior Doctor managing the ED out of hours – Consultant cover is provided on site in hours or off site out of hours.

Nestled between Cardiff, the capital of Wales, to the south, the picturesque coastal town of Porthcawl to the west, and the awe-inspiring Brecon Beacons National Park to the north, this Health Board is part of a thriving community rich in history and heritage.

 

The Hospital

The Emergency Care Centre is staffed by 8 consultants. The Emergency Medicine consultants support resuscitation training within the hospital and run training for both the junior trainees in the Emergency Department and well as other specialties.

  • On the junior tier there are GPs, FP2s, FP1, ACCS and Junior Clinical fellows.
  • On the senior tier there are SAS, AS, and Higher EM Trainees.
  • The department also benefits from Emergency Nurse Practitioners, a dedicated pharmacist and phlebotomy cover.

 

The Emergency Department is a Trauma Unit within the South Wales Trauma Network, treating high volumes of trauma and critically ill patients. Led by an Emergency Medicine Consultant, the Trauma Team handles complex polytrauma cases, often from local roads or the Brecon Beacons. Care is supported by a modern Critical Care Unit with 8 beds, admitting both adults and paediatrics, with paediatric patients transferred to the regional PICU network after stabilization.
