A West Midlands Trust is searching for a motivated Specialty Doctor in Orthogeriatric Medicine. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the care of older patients within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

Role and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Deliver a high-quality service in General and Geriatric Medicine, also providing medical support to the surgical team for frail patients
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the fracture liaison service, working to improve osteoporosis care
  • Supervise and educate junior medical staff
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and audits, including the review and analysis of data from the National Hip Fracture Database
  • Deliver teaching sessions for members of the multidisciplinary team, nurses and visiting medical students
  • Be prepared to respond to occasional emergencies or unforeseen situations as directed by the supervising consultant, in consultation with colleagues when possible.
  • Adhere to and implement Health and Safety procedures

While there is no mandatory research commitment, research is encouraged, and support for research activities will be provided where possible.

The Requirements

Essential criteria: 

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Completion of Foundation Programme or equivalent
  • At least 24 months of post-registration experience in acute medicine
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to continuous professional development

Desirable criteria: 

  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent
  • Previous experience in geriatric or orthogeriatric medicine
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Participation in quality improvement projects or research
