Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics and Neonatology
- £59,175 - £95,400
- UK, South West
- Permanent
We have been approached by a fantastic teaching hospital to help them secure two Specialty Doctors in Paediatrics and Neonatology. The successful applicants will join their experienced team in a supportive setting in the South West of England. The hospital is home to a Level 2 Neonatal Unit and is highly skilled in guiding doctors through the CESR and Portfolio pathways. They’re looking for senior doctors with Registrar-level experience who are keen to take on a new challenge with excellent opportunities for continuous professional development.
Main Duties:
- Assess, treat, and admit patients within the Paediatrics department.
- Manage paediatric emergency cases in the emergency department and oversee outpatient clinics.
- Participate in the on-call rota (1:12) and actively engage in paediatric and neonatal resuscitation teams.
- Review babies on the postnatal wards with clinical concerns.
- Stabilise preterm and unwell full-term babies, admit them to the Level 2 NICU, and manage their ongoing care.
- Collaborate with colleagues in acute specialties and community partners.
- Provide guidance, support, and training to junior doctors and other team members.
The Hospital, Department and CPD:
The Paediatrics team is deeply committed to professional development, with a strong focus on supporting doctors through the CESR/Portfolio pathway. They allocate dedicated time and resources to guide individuals through this process, helping them join the specialist register in Paediatrics. The department offers weekly training, study leave budgets, and SPA time, alongside opportunities for involvement in audits and quality improvement initiatives. Doctors are encouraged to contribute to the education of undergraduates, postgraduates, nurses, and AHPs through formal and informal teaching, including bedside, lectures, and tutorials.
The Location:
You’ll be based in a city in the South West of England. This coastal area of the UK provides the perfect location for families to live and it proves very popular for holidays in the summer. Within 10 miles of the hospital there are multiple schools rated ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED. Rail links mean you have access to local cities as well as London. You’ll also find the cost of living in the region very reasonable in comparison to many other parts of the UK, particularly the major cities.

- Full MRCPCH or equivalent (if UK experienced then just MRCPCH 1 and 2 is accepted, provided GMC is complete)
