This trust in the Southwest are seeking enthusiastic, skilled, and experienced registrars to work in their Acute Medicine department. The hospital has just under 1000 beds, exposing you to a wide range of acutely unwell patients. In this role you will be working closely with the team of consultants, junior doctors and nurses completing assessments, diagnosis and management of patients who present acute and chronic medical conditions. As a registrar you will be required to take on the teaching and training of junior members of the clinical team. As a result, this opportunity is appropriate for doctors who are looking to gain valuable clinical experience in a large acute setting and get their core competencies signed off. The trust provides a great opportunity to progress your career due to the departments great CESR support, helping doctors achieve specialist registration without having to complete the training system.

Main Duties: 

  • Working as a middle grade in Acute Medicine you will be expected to take on a senior role during night shifts when consultants aren’t on site. This will include the assessment and management of acute medical issues and taking on a leadership role during cardiovascular incidents.
  • There is an expectation for you to work the Acute Medicine on call rota. This is likely to be a 1 in 8 rota but is subject to change.  
  • Study leave will be granted as you will be required to keep you clinical skills up to date through regular CPD.
  • An active role in the teaching of junior doctors, nurses and medical students will ne necessary. This will include both classroom and bedside based teaching.
  • Keep accurate patient records in accordance with Trust guidelines.
