This new post is an exciting expansion of the Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care at a brilliant Trust in the East Midlands. The are looking for a Specialty Doctor in Intensive Care to bridge the gap between the Consultants and Junior staff. 


The post: 

  • To improve the quality and safety of patient care by increasing the total number of medical staff.
  • To provide increased supervision and training to junior resident staff.

Duties of post: 

  • The focus of the job plan is on intensive care and high dependency care.
  • The Specialist will work autonomously to a level defined by mutual agreement within local clinical governance frameworks, and will be provided mentorship by both the Clinical Lead for Critical Care and Clinical Lead for Perioperative Medicine.
  • The primary focus will be on providing direct clinical care and meeting service delivery and improvement requirements.
  • Depending on the experience of the successful candidate the NHS Trust can provide support to work towards stepping up to Consultant.

Additional support: 

  • They can offer the successful applicant dedicated non-clinical time (known as Supporting Professional Activities or Self-Directed Time) for their own continuing professional development and other activities that support the department (to be agreed with the clinical lead). Examples include teaching, research, clinical simulation, management, leadership, medical ethics and quality improvement projects.

  • GMC registration (Full or in process)
