A position is available in a dynamic Respiratory department for a fixed term Locum Consultant. The NHS Trust is located in the Midlands amongst a vibrant and welcoming community made up of several internationally trained Doctors! 


The post: 

  • The posts will cover general respiratory inpatient and some general medicine inpatient work.
  • The post holders will also be expected to undertake an active interest in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff and other professional groups. They will be encouraged to undertake research, and play a full part in the clinical governance issues of the Respiratory Medicine department and the Trust.

The duties of the post: 

  • Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
  • Leadership, development and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trust’s business plans. Liaison and communication with the Clinical Director of Respiratory Medicine, the General Manager and the Managing Director.
  • To provide evidence-based care for all inpatients and outpatients
  • To have regard at all times for the clinical and quality standards.
  • To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies and to work collaboratively.
  • To take an active role in teaching and training in the department and Trust at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Additional support: 

  • The post holder will be encouraged to take responsibility for their Continuing Professional Development and take part in Continuing Medical Education activities, in line with the requirements of the Royal College of Physicians and in consultation with the Lead for Respiratory Medicine and the Clinical Director.
  • The post holder will be expected to be committed to the concept of lifelong learning and produce and maintain a Personal Development Plan in agreement with their Associate Clinical Director. Study leave is available subject to the approval of the Clinical Director/General Manager.
  • Dedicated CESR support to ensure the completion of a CESR portfolio in order to obtain specialist registration.

  • MRCP
  • Full GMC
