Registrar (ST3) Acute Medicine
NHS Trust in the Midlands are interviewing next week for SIX Acute Medicine Registrars! They are looking for team players with a flexible approach who can embrace new ways of working when necessary.
The post:
- These are new posts offering the exciting opportunity to provide registrar grade service in Acute Medicine.
- Study leave can be arranged, subject to notice, for educational activities relevant to acute medicine. Relevant study-leave includes life-support courses, other general medicine courses, and preparation for exams.
- Funding is available for educational activities such as e-learning, and e-portfolio access.
- As a forward-thinking department, interested in reviewing outcomes and improving quality they encourage involvement in clinical audit.
- The appointee will work alongside the existing Specialty Registrars with a view to developing their own clinical interest. Educational supervision and mentoring will be subject to the appointee’s clinical interest
- Applicants should preferably be members of the Royal College of Physicians, or in process of taking the MRCP, or have equivalent experience and training and must be fully registered with a license to practice with the General Medical Council.
Duties of post:
- The post holder will be supported and expected to fulfil the CPD requirements of the Royal College of Physicians.
- There will be regular appraisals and mentoring with an engaged and motivated Acute medicine Consultant.
- The post-holder will be strongly encouraged to work towards post-graduate examinations (if not already held).

Registrar in Acute Medicine

The Post:
- The successful candidates will work under the supervision of the AMU Consultants and Registrars in the care of acute general medical inpatients with the opportunity to participate in the Acute Medicine Take on call as well as work in Ambulatory Care as well as develop your procedural skills.
Duties of Post:
- The appointee will be expected to attend and actively participate in Departmental and other teaching sessions.
- It is expected that the appointee will assist with the teaching of undergraduate medical students attached to the firm and postgraduate doctors.
- The appointee is welcome to participate in Clinical Audit and clinical governance activities within the department of Acute Medicine.

General Medicine Registrar
Role:
- The post holder will take part in a 1 in 9 on-call medical rota pattern.
- You will also carry out diagnosing and treating the wide spectrum of medical disorders that present acutely to hospital emergency departments and acute medical units, referring for specialist opinion and care as appropriate.
- Providing advice and care for patients admitted to hospital under other specialties (e.g. surgery, obstetrics & gynaecology) who have or develop medical problems.
- To liaise between nurses, other clinicians, patients and relatives in order to support safe care.
- To attend and participate in ward rounds, when applicable, and other related daily unit activities.
- To provide appropriate workplace supervision to other staff as and when needed as requested.
- Take on additional outpatient and inpatient activity as per the clinical demands.
- Receiving referrals and requests for advice from GPs and other clinicians and ensuring follow up and timely discharge communications are sent back when appropriate.
- Participating in systems to improve patient safety and quality of care, including error reporting, root cause analysis, audit and quality improvement work.
- Taking personal responsibility for risk management in your own scope of work and undertaking to review practice and learn from mistakes, near-misses, and positive events.
