The post:
- To provide interpretative reports and advice concerning the investigation and management of patients and advise on and encourage the selection of the most appropriate tests.
- To develop and maintain collaborative relationships with clinical colleagues in all specialities within the trust and in primary care and to participate in multidisciplinary meetings, ward rounds, guideline development , teaching and training as appropriate.
- The exact clinical role will be open for discussion depending on the Interests and experience of the appointee. There will be opportunities for developing outpatient services in conjunction with the Division of Medicine.
The post holder will be expected to:
- Provide a high quality diagnostic service for leading tertiary provider, supporting patient pathways across the Midlands
- Deliver core Haematopathology services supporting the laboratory with diagnostic/morphological reporting, including tissue-based diagnostic work (lymph node, bone marrow trephine, extranodal samples, diagnostic cytology) and haematological samples – blood films, aspirates, flow cytometry and interpreting molecular pathology results at local and network levels.
- Liaise with other clinical services – developing responsibilities to include participation in MDT/clinicopathological discussions
- Undertake an appropriate share of supervisory and managerial responsibilities to help deliver a high quality diagnostic service
- Undertake and participate in clinical audit.
- Develop an area of special interest for clinical or academic research.

NHS Senior Clinical Fellow in CAR-T Lymphoma
A leading University Hospital NHS Trust in the Midlands area is looking to add a Senior Clinical Fellow to join the expanding CAR-T Lymphoma team at the main university hospital site. The post-holder will benefit from extensive training in CAR-T in the context of lymphoid malignancies. As part of your clinical responsibilities, you will liaise with clinical and non-medical teams associated with the delivery of CAR-T including ITU, Neurology, Palliative Care, stem-cell laboratory, apheresis, and others. You will be trained in delivering and supervising CAR-T in an ambulatory setting. There are no on-call requirements formally for this position, however opportunities for additional salary uplift are available if you wish to join the ST on-call rota during your tenure.
This is a standard 10PA 40-hour p/week job plan and the duties will include:
- Attending and contributing at both the Lymphoma/CAR-T MDT and national CAR-T panel
- Contributing to the tertiary referral service for patients with lymphoid malignancies, working closely with Consultants and Cancer Nurse Specialists (CNS)
- Out-patient clinical responsibilities
- Actively working with patients participating in lymphoma/CAR-T clinical trials
- Teaching junior doctors and undergraduate medical students
- Participating in departmental audits, quality improvement projects, research and educational meetings

Department
The Clinical Haematology Department is one of the largest sub-specialised tertiary referral centres in the UK with a specialist interest in the diagnosis and treatment of haematological malignancies, with an excellent reputation for clinical trials and clinical research. The Clinical Haematology is a purpose built, state of the art building comprising two bespoke wards, including a Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of 18 beds, all in single rooms with HEPA filtration. Outpatient Suites, Day Case (22 stations) and apheresis Units are all housed within the centre and there are currently 12 consultants who provide the Haematology malignancy service, including a Leukaemia/BMT team, a Myeloma team and a Lymphoma/CLL team. The centre is a busy stem cell transplant centre performing 174 transplants in 2019 including over 70 autografts for myeloma. On-site is an active programme of cord blood and haploidentical transplantation. There is also an in-house HTA approved stem cell processing laboratory and apheresis /cell separator unit, as well as a regional ECP service for patients with GVHD. Advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) have been delivered on-and off trial and an NHS England-accredited CAR-T program will begin in early 2023. The Myeloma Service includes three other consultants, a clinical fellow and three Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), with two large multi-professional clinics per a week. There is a large clinical trials programme and dedicated research nurses for myeloma. The Clinical Haematology Department is highly active in clinical research with an extensive portfolio of NCRI and commercial clinical studies across all disease areas and has been designated as one of 12 Cure Leukaemia TAP (therapy-accelerated programme) centres across the UK.

- Previous experience in Clinical Haematology (with interest in CAR-T)
- Full MRCP (UK) or equivalent post-graduate qualification
- FRCPath or steps towards this (desirable but not essential)

Specialty Doctor in Histopathology
We are seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Histopathology to join an experienced and highly motivated team in an NHS Trust in the Midlands.
The post:
- Full and part-time applicants will be considered.
- For this post, up to a total of 10 programmed activities (PAs) will be spent in cellular pathology. This includes up to 9 PAs of direct clinical care and 1 PA of supporting professional activities.
Duties of the post:
- Commitment to clinico-pathological and MDT meetings.
- The Doctor will work together with the other pathologists to contribute to the histopathology services as appropriate to the areas of clinical specialisation across the Trust.
- Shared responsibility with the other pathologists to provide cover for periods of annual leave and short term sickness.
- Clinical and educational supervision of junior medical staff and Biomedical Scientist Practitioners in histopathology as a shared responsibility with colleagues. The appointee will be required to devote time to these activities on a regular basis.
- Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.
- To contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D Framework.
- To participate in audit programmes and external quality assessment (EQA).
- To maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with professional requirements.
- To conduct the diagnostic service in accordance with contractual requirements.
- To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies.
- To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Trust.
Additional support:
- There are excellent opportunities for postgraduate and BMS teaching, which is encouraged. These include journal club meetings, ‘Black box’ meetings, small group teaching and fourth year medical student teaching in breast pathology. Departmental medical staff participate in the provision of problem-based learning group supervision and undergraduate OSCE examinations. Relevant training for these activities is provided by the Trust.
