The post holder will be required to work to a rota comprising a mixture of 9am-5pm day shifts, twilight shifts, night and weekend shifts.
The Acute Medical Unit consists of 48 beds with a 4 bedded area for Enhanced Care provision for patients, with an enhanced nurse-patient ratio. There are also co-located 8 cubicles and 6 trolley assessment area for Assessment as well as provision of Ambulatory Emergency Care. We have a team of 10 Acute Medical Consultants working on the unit alongside an excellent large team of motivated and enthusiastic junior doctors, ANPs, nurses, HCAs, pharmacists and operational managers.

The post-bearer will work in a great Acute Medical Unit and also have the opportunity to split their time with work in another Internal Medicine sub-speciality of their choosing (Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology etc.) alongside the Acute work.
As a specialist you would need an eye for detail and be flexible in your approach to working in multidisciplinary teams. This is a fast paced challenging environment and as a specialty doctor you will be responsible for delivering high quality patient treatment and care within the resources allocated.
The Trust has two Clinical Divisions, Urgent and Integrated Care and Family Services and surgery. Each Division is headed by a Divisional Director, supported by a Divisional Manager and this role will work alongside the Acute Medical teams.

The post will be taking a share of the on call duties and gaining exposure to a wide range of medical conditions while being fully supported by a full junior and senior team. This will include full and equal access to supervision as well as internal educational and training opportunities and funded study leave.
This busy job provides excellent opportunity for clinical learning and development of skills. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver teaching to a cohort of junior doctors and to participate in quality improvement projects.
