Specialty Doctor in Elderly Care Medicine (Orthogeriatrics)
BDI Resourcing is looking to place a Specialty Doctor in Elderly Care Medicine with an interest in Orthopaedics. The position will be specifically created to cater for the Speciality doctor including tailored job plans and catered exposure to subspeciality interests. The Fantastic NHS Trust is located in Greater Manchester; a hotspot for passionate and dedicated international medical graduates!
The post:
- The post holder will be a key member of the Orthogeriatric Team. This will include:
- Seeing medically unwell patients at the request of the Orthopaedic doctors.
- Seeing patients admitted with a fractured femur (in order to fulfil the requirements of the Best Practice Tariff for Hip Fracture).
- The care of frail, complex, elderly patients with a view to improving their quality of life.
Duties of Post:
- Providing advice about the medical care of patients on the ward.
- The post holder will be a key member of the Orthogeriatric Team. They will see unwell patients at the request of the Orthopaedic doctors and will see patients admitted with a fractured femur (in order to fulfil the requirements of the Best Practice Tariff for hip fracture).
- In conjunction with the Consultant Orthogeriatrician, ensuring that patients receive care to the standard required by the Best Practice Tariff and the National Hip Fracture Database. This will include:
a) Ensuring patients are seen by an Orthogeriatrician (Consultant or Speciality Doctor) within 72 hours of admission
b) Completing the standardised falls and osteoporosis assessment documents c) Attending daily “board rounds” & multidisciplinary team meetings d) Working with the Specialist Nurse for Inpatient Osteoporosis to arrange osteoporosis investigations and treatment.
Additional Support:
- Dedicated CESR support to encourage the Specialty Doctor to work towards their CESR portfolio in order to step up to Consultant level.
Requirements:
- GMC full or in process.
- MRCP/PLAB

Requirements:
As well as current NHS Consultants, the team are open to discussions with doctors with overseas Consultant experience, or UK middle grades looking to step up to a Consultant level, as well as a range of other profiles.
