This post requires PLAB and three years' experience within Emergency Medicine.

The successful applicant will join the emergency department (ED) team working in the new Emergency Care Centre opened in February 2015. The successful candidate will work on a full shift junior ED rota.

The department sees approximately 95,000 new attendances per annum covering the full spectrum of acute illness and injury that is seen in a busy district general hospital. This includes around 20,000 new paediatric attendances per year. The department is a designated trauma receiving unit and has established links with the local major trauma centre at the RVI in Newcastle. The EM consultant body has several areas of specialist interest and specific training would be provided in; paediatric emergency medicine, core and enhanced emergency ultrasound, hand surgery, education and simulation. The department runs a daily review clinic and a weekly paediatric review clinic. The emergency department is responsible for the inpatient care of head and chest injuries. There are established programmes of teaching, audit and research that the successful applicant would be encouraged to partake in.
