Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine

We have an amazing opportunity to join the Emergency Department as a Senior Clinical Fellow where you will assist in the running of the shop floor and supporting your colleagues in managing the department. We have a well-established reputation for postgraduate training and clinical research, as well as a strong dedication to providing high quality patient care. If successful, you will be offered a 12-month contract with a view to extend at the end of the year.

Hours of work will be subject to the requirements of the service; however, a formal plan will be provided to the post holder before joining the department. Personal development is highly regarded so we encourage all staff to get involved in teaching sessions and the different learning opportunities provided.

Main Duties:

The successful applicant will receive a formal job plan which will be agreed with the department before joining the department. The duties include:

• Assist in delivering quality patient care
• Support the management of the Emergency Department shop floor
• Communicate with other departments both Clinical and Managerial
• Supervise junior staff
• Contribute to department meetings
• Participate in clinical audits
• Active involvement in teaching
• Non-clinical time for personal professional development

The Department and Hospital:

Our Trust is one of the largest Trusts in the NHS and the A&E Department here is rapidly expanding at the Trust as we continue to look for ways to develop. We have two Emergency Medicine departments which provide a wide variety of acute services. We are also a campus for a medical school of one of the highest rated universities in the world.

You will have a supportive onboarding experience when you join the Trust and a well-planned shadowing period to give you the time you need to adjust to your new job. We have a "buddy up" scheme where you will be paired with another international doctor as soon as you arrive to assist you transition into the position.

Location:

London is one of the most diverse locations in the UK, which makes it a very welcoming location for overseas doctors joining the Trust. The Trust has excellent transport links that make Central London and its surroundings easily accessible. There are many 'Good' to 'Outstanding' rated schools in the local area and we can guide the post holder in getting their children enrolled in their preferred schools.

The Trust are looking to fill 3 Senior Clinical Fellow posts for the Emergency Medicine Department. There is also the option to do secondments in other departments once a year giving applicants the opportunity to complete the required rotations for CESR in 4 years.

This opportunity will suit doctors that are looking for a Middle Grade level position in the NHS and looking to join a rapidly growing team. You will be expected to work together with the other Registrars and support the junior doctors in order to deliver safe and effective emergency care to all patients.

The Department and Hospital:

The Emergency Department is rapidly expanding at the Trust, and it is one of the busiest departments in London. We see an expansive range of different surgical cases and acute medical cases and we provide a full range of emergency services to both adults and children. Both of our Emergency Departments have a Urgent Care Centre (UCC).

We are constantly looking to innovate and improve the department with further plans to expand and redevelop in process. A wide range of training opportunities are offered as we are always looking to help our staff improve and be able to provide the highest quality of patient care. Each member of staff has protected non-clinical time to utilise our resources, seminars and courses.

A position has become available at an NHS Trust 1 hour from London for aSpeciality Doctor in Emergency Medicine. The fantastic Trust are looking forward to welcoming a dedicated and forward thinking ED Doctor, they will be dealing with a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions.

The post:

• 10.5 PA + 1 SPA contract.
• Participate in effective leadership to multidisciplinary staff members of the Department
• Participate in the development of teaching, training and research within the Organisation

Duties of Post: 

• To participate in providing a service for Emergency Medicine to the hospital and community. The post holder will be designated with the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness with your Consultant.
• As a senior employee of the department the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the patients.
• The post holder will participate in regular audit meetings and postgraduate teaching sessions held by the appropriate Consultants.
• You will be required to co-operate with your team in the efficient running of services and are expected to share, in the medical contribution to management, training obligations and modernisation of the service.

• The Department has a very keen interest in most Post Graduate activities to assist Junior Medical Staff to attain their post-graduate qualifications. Study Leave is available for attending approved courses.
• Dedicated SPAs to ensure the successful candidate is encouraged and supported with the completion of their CESR application.

• You will work closely and constructively as part of the Emergency Department Team and have a strong and ongoing educational commitment to all staff.
• The post holder will be expected to show evidence of effective use of the SPA to develop him/her self or service in the department.

Duties of the post:

• Fellows must establish and maintain a good working relationship with the various ancillary, mental health, pre-hospital and community services as well as on site specialties and specialties at tertiary referral centres.
• You may have the opportunity to participate in audit meetings.
• The Trust has a comprehensive clinical governance programme and consultants are expected to be engaged with this work. For example, participation in clinical audit, morbidity/mortality meetings, reporting incidents and near misses and responding to complaints
