Acute Medicine Registrar ST3+

As a Senior Clinical Fellow in Acute Medicine, you will form an important part of a team set up to assess and immediately manage acute medical emergencies. The position will cover a wide variety of medical specialties, you will also be expected to work closely with colleagues in the Emergency Department and Critical Care. Given the diverse nature of the cases you will handle, the post provides an excellent base for doctors looking to progress into any sub-specialty within Medicine.

The Job

Your work will be split between the Acute Medical Unit, the Short Stay Unit and the Ambulatory Care Unit, you’ll also treat Acute medical cases in the Emergency Department. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team and liaising regularly with other specialties within the Trust to provide high quality patient care.

The duties you will be expected to perform are as follows:

• Assess and manage Acute Medical emergencies admitted to the hospital.
• Lead the code blue/rapid response team.
• Participate in the on-call rota.
• Liaise with the Consultant team to plan patient care.
• Communicate with colleagues in other departments and GPs when required.
• Train junior medical staff.

As well as clinical duties, the position will require:

• Maintain an up-to-date portfolio of training.
• Active involvement in clinical audits and quality improvement projects.
• Participate in continued professional development.
• Hold teaching sessions for medical students.

The Requirements

• Relevant postgraduate qualification (MRCP, MRCPI, USMLE, PLAB, Sri Lankan MD etc.)
• IELTS or OET if you are coming from overseas
• GMC registered or in process
• Experience in a similar role whether in the NHS or elsewhere

• To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Health Board Core clinical expertise in Care of the Elderly.

BDI resourcing are searching for an Acute Medicine Registrar for a position within the NHS Trust in London. 

Roles and responsibilities: 

• To develop further expertise in the identification and management of the sick patient
• To gain experience and familiarity in identifying and managing a wide variety of medical conditions, including making appropriate decisions regarding the need for admission, the development of strategies which might provide an alternative to admission and identifying where early discharge would be safe and appropriate
• To further develop skills of history taking, physical examination, appropriate investigation and rational prescribing
• To master a number of procedural techniques
• To hone communication skills with patients, relatives and colleagues

? Outpatient clinics in diabetes and endocrinology as detailed in job plan
? Specialty MDTs as per job plan
? Contribution to managing inpatients with diabetes and endocrine problems as per job plan
? Contribution to managing GIM inpatients as per job plan
? Supervision of junior doctors and nursing staff
? Active participation in departmental meetings
? Contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
