The post
- The aim of the post is to be an efficient and flexible member of the SWL Pathology team providing a consistently high quality and professional service to all users of the service.
The duties of the post:
- To provide and co-ordinate specialist clinical technical services to patients that may include research and audit samples.
- To undertake the day-to-day management of a section within the laboratory under the direction of a line manager.
- Contribute to providing a professional clinical technical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department
- To provide the necessary training and supervision to staff within the section.
- To actively participate in the extended BMS role of histology specimen dissection.
- To be proficient in all designated areas of diagnostic work within the department and to provide a comprehensive and appropriate laboratory service to patients and staff.
- To undertake a wide range of diagnostic tests and screening procedures through to initial interpretation.
- To undertake technical validation of highly complex results from laboratory investigations to ensure accuracy and precision as specified by laboratory protocols.
- To plan, prioritise and supervise the scientific workload of a section on a day-to-day basis.
- To validate reports as required using judgemental expertise.
- To authorise reports when given the delegated responsibility.
- To assist in the implementation and development of new and existing techniques.
Additional support:
- Undertake relevant training for electronic information systems in place & under development and be familiar and proficient with the use of the information technology systems within the department.
- Maintain, update and develop personal and professional knowledge and skills in specimen dissection through professional development, CPD and maintenance of specimen and error log books.
- Participate in an annual appraisal process where objectives will be agreed, performance monitored and personal development needs discussed.
The requirements:
- MSc or equivalent specialist experience at Masters level
- An honours degree or equivalent in a biological science
- HCPC Registration
- Member of the IBMS

- Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.
- To contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D Framework.
- To participate in audit programmes and external quality assessment (EQA).
- To maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with professional requirements.
- To conduct the diagnostic service in accordance with contractual requirements.
- To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies.
- To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Trust.

- There are excellent opportunities for postgraduate and BMS teaching, which is encouraged. These include journal club meetings, ‘Black box’ meetings, small group teaching and fourth year medical student teaching in breast pathology. Departmental medical staff participate in the provision of problem-based learning group supervision and undergraduate OSCE examinations. Relevant training for these activities is provided by the Trust.

NHS Locum Consultant in Cellular Pathology with interests in GI and or Gynae
Team BDI Resourcing have a position available for a Locum Consultant in Cellular Pathology with interests in GI and or Gynae. The position is within an NHS Trust in London.
The post:
- A full-time NHS Locum Consultant post is are available at an amazing NHS Trust. The post is a one year fixed appointment for a total of 10 PAs a week, and candidates who wish to work less than full time will be equally considered. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Duties of post:
- The appointee must have an interests in GI and or Gynae.
- The laboratories have teaching rooms and multi-headed microscopes. There are facilities for macro and microphotography. An interest in undertaking the role of educational supervisor is desirable but not essential. The post-holder will be expected to take part in the training of these trainee medical staff as well as laboratory staff. The appointee may also be expected to take part in the training of other health service staff including nursing staff, ambulance staff, physiotherapists and radiographers as needed.
- The post-holder will participate in clinical governance activities as required by the Trust and external accrediting bodies.

- Job plans to be agreed in accordance with successful applicant’s areas of interest alongside service requirements.
- SPAs will be provided as part of the successful applicant’s job plan for those building a CESR portfolio for GMC Specialist Registration.
- The post holder’s professional progress will be reviewed annually by the supervising Consultant.
- The post-holder will be required to keep fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust. Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other appropriate personal development needs.

We are seeking an international doctor for a Specialty Doctor Medical Oncology for a Greater London NHS Trust.
The post is full-time (10 PAs) and it is a suitable post for someone who wants to enter Specialist training in Medical Oncology or Palliative Care.
There will be appropriate opportunities for training and time for clinical audit and continuing professional development.
The post includes weekend sessional ward cover for Haematology inpatients and the chemotherapy unit (Saturday/Sunday and bank holiday mornings; on average 1 weekend in 4).
