This is a fantastic opportunity for someone stepping from a Middle Grade/ST6 post to a senior Oncology contract, or for an overseas trained Consultant wishing to undertake a slightly more supervised contract to acclimatise to the UK system. You will be specialising in Urological cancers, including Prostate and Renal cancers, although personal adjustments to subsite specialisation and other clinical/management/research duties will be considered when finalising the job plan. The Trust is extremely diverse and regularly onboard overseas trained doctors, so additional relevant training will be offered to support NHS professional development. The Oncology and Haematology Centre has an established multidisciplinary team including over 30 Consultants in Medical and Clinical Oncology, Registrars and Specialty Doctors, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and SHOs. There are site-specific cancer wards and inpatient beds, purpose-built outpatient clinics, a well-staffed day treatment unit, a dedicated acute assessment unit and the radiotherapy department. This opportunity is for an NHS Locum Consultant in Medical Oncology with a specialist interest in Breast and gynaecological malignancies to join an expanding consultant team in a leading NHS University Hospital NHS Trust. Considerations will be given to individual applicants who would prefer to pursue different interests in Oncology. You will work in conjunction with the other Consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary teams across the Trust and be supported by 4 Specialty Doctors in Oncology, 2 Acute Clinical Practitioners, 2 Specialty Trainees along with 4 Clinical Nurse Specialists. The Department are committed to the professional development of their Oncologists and are also committed to support Oncologists in their first senior role post-training, alongside individuals pursuing Specialist Registration via the CESR pathway. This opportunity is perfect for a Consultant in Medical Oncology to join a friendly and close-knit Oncology team at a University Hospital Trust. You’ll be expected to work in Lung and GI cancers, however consideration will be given if you have different subsite preferences and there will regular appraisals and job plan reviews if you’d prefer some flexibility here. If you’re an overseas Consultant in Medical Oncology, there is a supervised induction to ensure you feel comfortable practicing independent in an NHS Oncology capacity. The contract will be moved to permanent once GMC Specialist Registration in Oncology is successfully obtained, and support will be given here if required via CESR pathway. It will be a standard 10PA job plan with the following duties
The Trust has three main hospital sites, and your job plan will be based in the largest of the three, which provides all usual specialties. In the main hospital site, there is an acute oncology inpatient service and bespoke outpatient oncology units. You’ll be working alongside other Medical Oncology Consultants and Clinical Oncology Consultants to deliver cancer care to the local populations. There are also specialty registrar trainees on rotation and nurse practitioners which support the inpatient ward and SACT clinics. The Trust has well-equipped education centre, lecture theatres and libraries. It is also closely linked with the Medical School, and you will be encouraged to explore teaching roles.
