The Post:
- The existing Emergency Department staff pride themselves on providing high quality clinical presence, together with high standards of education, training, research and audit. The post holders will work in close co-operation with nursing, managerial and medical colleagues to provide high quality healthcare to the Trust’s patients.
Duties of post:
- To provide a first-class clinical service to patients.
- To supervise and teach junior clinical staff.
- To participate in the teaching, research, audit and governance programmes within the Department.
- To develop professionally and take part in all service development.
- To take part in all development and appraisal processes.

- SPAs will be provided as part of the successful applicant’s job plan for those building a CESR portfolio for GMC Specialist Registration.
- The job plan offers a 7:3 split on direct clinical hours, and allows for flexible working.

Specialty Doctor in Same day Emergency Care (SDEC)
SDEC is the provision of same day care for emergency patients who would otherwise be admitted to hospital. Under this care model, patients presenting at hospital with relevant conditions can be rapidly assessed, diagnosed and treated without being admitted to a ward, and if clinically safe to do so, will go home the same day their care is provided.
We are currently looking to fill a position as a Specialty Doctor in Same day Emergency Care (SDEC). Doctors with Emergency Medicine or Acute/General medicine experience should apply.
Duties:
- The appointee will become a valuable and senior member of the medical directorate and will be responsible to the consultant physician for whom they are working. The expectation of the role is to provide senior support as part of a multi-disciplinary team whilst leading the SDEC team. The post holder will carry out independent SDEC patient assessment with junior doctors in the team.
- The assessment, monitoring and initiating treatment, with colleagues and under consultant supervision.
- To provide care for patients attending Outpatients Clinics.
- Leading review round and supervise relevant junior medical staff or students who may rotate through the department.
- Should undertake regular unsupervised rounds in SDEC to ensure patients are able to be treated and discharged the same day.
- Complete discharge summaries on the day of discharge

NHS Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine
This is a fantastic opportunity for an overseas trained Doctor who has Consultant experience in Emergency Medicine. The NHS Trust in the North of England are looking to expand their team and are dedicated to providing a supportive pathway towards specialist registration!
The post:
- You will be expected to work closely and constructively as part of the Emergency Department Team.
- You will be given strong and ongoing educational support.
- The post holder will be expected to show evidence of effective use of the SPA to develop him/herself or service in the department.
Duties of the post:
- Successful candidates will be required to participate in the teaching and training of medical staff within the department as well as the undergraduate teaching of medical students.
- Locum Consultants must establish and maintain a good working relationship with the various ancillary, mental health, pre-hospital and community services as well as on site specialties and specialties at tertiary referral centres.
- All clinicians are required participate in audit meetings. The post-holder will be required to make contributions to departmental, trust-wide and National audit projects.
- The Trust has a comprehensive clinical governance programme and consultants are expected to be engaged with this work. For example, participation in clinical audit, morbidity/mortality meetings, reporting incidents and near misses and responding to complaints
