Intensive Care Medicine Consultant

Opportunity for an overseas trained Doctor who has good NHS experience at Registrar level in Emergency Medicine. Salary will be calculated using the successful candidates experience! 

The post: 

• You will work closely and constructively as part of the Emergency Department Team and have a strong and ongoing educational commitment to all staff.
• The post holder will be expected to show evidence of effective use of the SPA to develop him/her self or service in the department.
• The consultant body includes FRCEM examiners.

Duties of the post:

• Successful candidates will be required to participate in the teaching and training of medical staff within the department as well as the undergraduate teaching of medical students.
• Specialty doctors must establish and maintain a good working relationship with the various ancillary, mental health, pre-hospital and community services as well as on site specialties and specialties at tertiary referral centres.
• All clinicians are required participate in audit meetings. The post-holder will be required to make contributions to departmental, trust-wide and National audit projects.
• The Trust has a comprehensive clinical governance programme and consultants are expected to be engaged with this work. For example, participation in clinical audit, morbidity/mortality meetings, reporting incidents and near misses and responding to complaints

The post:

The Critical Care Directorate seeks candidates to provide critical care at a busy and dynamic multisite Trust. The Directorate has a high profile within the Trust and is both a rapidly expanding and well-respected service. The appointee will join the friendly, collegiate, outward-looking and hard-working ICUs. Job plans are indicative and consideration will be given to any successful candidates wishing to develop special interests that they may have in the development of other aspects of service within the trust which may lead to a change in their initial job plan. We encourage applications from intensivists with interest or experience in critical care outreach or critical care follow-up services. Candidates are encouraged to discuss their speciality interests at the pre-interview stage.

Duties of post:

• The consultant will be expected to lead a multidisciplinary critical care team to a deliver an excellent clinical service.
• The consultant is expected to uphold and demonstrate good medical practice to GMC standards, including individual responsibility for clinical practice and team leadership, and respect for others.
• On call is for dedicated 24/7 ICU cover totalling eight weeks per annum. Weeks are worked in full or by local agreement can be split.
• The postholder will be encouraged and supported to develop clinical, teaching and leadership interests.
• To participate in regular departmental, academic, audit and managerial meetings.
• To participate to Trust Quality Improvement projects.
• Participation in annual appraisal and appropriate preparation for revalidation by the GMC and recertification by the appropriate Royal Colleges is required of the appointee.

• The post holder will undertake programmed sessions in their complementary speciality, and will be encouraged to pursue subspeciality work commensurate with training, special interests and revalidation requirements.

BDI Resourcing are working with a fantastic teaching hospital in the North West of England to recruit a driven Anaesthetist. 

Role: 

• The post holder would be expected to be competent and versatile enough to provide adult anaesthesia for all the above specialties in both the elective and emergency settings.
• The main purpose of this post will be to undertake a varied and challenging role in clinical anaesthesia, as part of the general duty consultant rota at this busy acute teaching Trust.
• The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to administration of patient care.
• Consultants are expected to work with service managers and clinical colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure clinical, national and local priorities, such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment, are achieved.

Requirements: 

Full GMC 

EDIC / EDAIC or equivalent. 

Role:

• It is envisaged that the post holder will carry out their duties as a full time Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine.
• The demands of the anaesthetic department mean that close and ongoing collaboration with consultant colleagues is required.
• There is likely to be flexibility of sessions given, although there may be a need to organise this around service development and reconfiguration. 
• Job plans will be reviewed annually in line with appraisals. 
• The post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations.
• The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust.
• The post-holder will be required to keep fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust.
• The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust's management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite and that all changes in clinical practice or workload, or developments requiring additional resources must have prior agreement with the Trust.

Requirements: EDIC, MRCP, EDAIC (or equivalent) and previous Consultant experience.
